What are the sizes of the lumens?
- There is one lumen that can accommodate devices that are less than 0.078″ in diameter. There are two lumens that can accommodate devices that are less than 0.064″ in diameter without introducer and 0.053” in diameter with introducers. There is one lumen that can accommodate devices that are less than 0.047” in diameter.
Is the Quad Lumen Bolt CT compatible?
- Yes
Does your bolt permit both compression and luer lock connections on each lumen?
- Yes
What is the maximum time the bolt can be left in situ?
- The bolt is indicated for 14 days of use.
Is the Quad Lumen Bolt reusable?
- No, the bolt is a single use item.
Why does the kit include “introducers”?
- Introducers are used for delicate sensors that may need help passing through the dura.
Why does the kit include 4 sealing caps?
- Sealing caps permit the neurosurgeon to place the bolt which subsequently allows the neurointensivist to later place any number of sensors as indicated for patient managment.
Why does the kit include an extensions?
- After removing the compression fitting the extension transforms the short lumen into a lumen length sized to accommodate commercially available intracranial sensors that have fixed luer lock connections.

Which sensors fit in which of the 3 sized lumens?
Can the Quad Lumen Bolt be used in an MR environment?
- Non-clinical testing has demonstrated the Hemedex QFlow 500™ Titanium Bolt Kit is MR Conditional. A patient with this device can be safely scanned in an MR system meeting the following conditions:
- Static magnetic field of 3.0 T or less;
- Maximum spatial field gradient of 8,610 G/cm (86.1 T/m);
- Maximum MR system-reported, whole-body averaged specific absorption rate (SAR) of 2 W/kg (Normal Mode).
- Under the scan conditions defined above, the Hemedex QFlow 500™ Titanium Bolt Kit is expected to produce a maximum temperature rise of less
than 0.3 ºC after 15 minutes of continuous scanning at 1.5 T and less than 0.6 ºC after 15 minutes of continuous scanning at 3 T. - In non-clinical testing, the image artifact caused by the device extends approximately 25 mm from the Hemedex QFlow 500™ Titanium Bolt when
imaged with a gradient echo pulse sequence and a 3 T MRI system. - Prior to transporting the patient to the MRI suite, remove all MR unsafe/conditional sensors that are not labelled for use in an MR environment.
- NOTE: Never leave Stylets or MR unsafe/conditional sensors that are not labeled for an MR environment in the bolt during MRI.
- Hemedex recommends that the lumens be closed/capped following the removal of any sensors.
